Two Nights Of Racing Produce Three Winners

This week in Georgia there were three different winners in two races.

Tim McCreadie leapfrogged Scott Bloomquist and took the points lead from Josh Richards after two superior performances at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA, and Rome (GA) Speedway this weekend in the Lucas Oil Late Model series.

On Saturday night at Dixie, Michael Page scored his first Lucas Oil Late Model win, while Sunday night at Rome, Lanigan swept the event by earning fast time, winning his heat, and leading every lap of the feature.

Dixie Speedway

Page scored his first Lucas Oil win this weekend at Dixie after passing Don O’Neal on lap 23 when the pair hit lapped traffic. There was no better place for Page to win his first Lucas Oil feature than his home track where he has spent the majority of his career.

“I figured if I was ever going to win it, tonight was it,” Page said. “It has been an up-and-down season and I am about wore out. I do what I can with a little team here. When these Lucas Oil guys come here, you have to do something and tonight we did it.”

O’Neal settled for second after setting fast time, winning his heat, starting on the pole, and leading the first 22 laps. On the last restart — brought out by a caution for Gregg Satterlee on lap 46 — O’Neal attempted to steal his lead back from Page by using his momentum up top. Page realized that the veteran was going to try something and moved up to block.

“I thought I had a shot to get back around him on that last restart,” O’Neal said. “He did what he had to do. He moved up there and blocked me. We were just too free getting into the turns. It was good run for us and hats off to [Page] for the win.”

Bloomquist rounded out the podium after starting fifth, overtaking second in the points as a result. He was 13 positions ahead of pre-race points leader Josh Richards.

Chris Madden and Jimmy Owens completed the top five. Madden fell to fourth after starting on the front row. Owens moved up four positions from ninth.

Rome Speedway

Darrell Lanigan won Sunday night at Rome in near-perfect fashion. He started the night by setting fast time, winning his heat, starting second in the feature, and then leading every lap to take home the $10,000 prize.

“Last night I jumped the cushion at Dixie, and it cost us a good finish," Lanigan said from Victory Lane. "Tonight, the car was just perfect from the time we unloaded it. Brian (Leonberg), Richie (Davis), and the entire crew have done a great job all year. We have had bad luck that knocked us out of some more wins. We are here to win.”

Lanigan’s teammate O’Neal found himself chasing the leader under the checkered flag for the second night in a row. O’Neal’s two second-place finishes should give him momentum going into next weekend.

“Thanks to Clint Bowyer and everybody on the team,” Lanigan said. “We have really got a good setup on this car in the last month. We were running second at Knoxville and had a fan blade come off, and that knocked the water pump off. We were up to second at Brownstown last week and now two podium finishes this weekend. We are looking forward to Pittsburgh next weekend.”

Lanigan faced his first challenge for the lead by Brandon Overton, who pulled his car to within a car length of the leader before he unexpectedly slowed on lap 20, bringing out the first caution of the night. On the restart, Lanigan pulled out to a modest lead, leaving the field behind him to fight over second. O’Neal secured the second-place spot over McCreadie as the two battled in the final 10 laps.

McCreadie moved from seventh to third, finishing ahead of Bloomquist and Richards to claim the points lead.

“It feels great to be the point leader, but now we have to close it out strong,” McCreadie said. “This team has worked so hard all year. Now it has come to crunch time. This is what we all work so hard for, a championship.”

Chris Madden and Earl Pearson rounded out the top five. Bloomquist, now second in the points, finished sixth — directly in front of Dale McDowell and the pole sitter Donald McIntosh.

Devin Gilpin and Saturday night’s winner Michael Page finished out the top 10.
