Danny Lasoski Aims For A Knoxville Victory When It Matters Most
Danny Lasoski is Knoxville Raceway's winningest driver, but he is still looking for a finale victory in the 360 Nationals.
In each of the past five years, Danny Lasoski and Mark Burch Motorsports have earned a top 10 during one of the preliminary events of the Knoxville 360 Nationals. This Saturday, they will try to earn one when it matters most -- during the finale of the 27th running of this famed event at Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway.
Lasoski has 112 feature race wins at Knoxville -- nearly double that of Doug Wolfgang, who sits second on the list with 60. That contributed to Lasoski's induction to the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame earlier this year, but he has one piece of unfinished business.
"We have the utmost confidence, but you have to have a lot of luck," Lasoski said. "[Team owner Mark Burch] does a phenomenal job of preparing the race car, and that's a major step toward giving yourself an opportunity."
In three of the last five editions of this race year, Lasoski and Burch combined for a win during one of the preliminary nights.
Lasoski and Burch's preliminary night wins came in 2012, 2013, and 2015.
Last year, Lasoski failed to automatically advance to the A-Main during the finale when he missed the transfer spot by one position. He started the big show in fifth place and advanced to Sammy Swindell's bumper bar when the race was slowed by a caution with three laps remaining.
During the final dash to the checkers, Swindell gained a 1.078-second lead and Lasoski had to settle for second.
"We never, ever quit," Lasoski said. "We may be behind the eight ball, but we never quit. Both [myself and Burch] have the never-give-up attitude."
In failing to pass Swindell, Lasoski was forced to share an honor that he alone had recorded. Lasoski and Swindell are currently the only two drivers who have won both the 360 and 410 Nationals.
