It did not take long for Shane Clanton to grab the lead from Zach Leonhardi in Ultimate Super Late Model Series competition Saturday night at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA. Nor did it take long to get to the checkers.

Clanton started the race on the inside of the second row and wrestled the lead from Leonhardi on lap two. He then spent the next 10 minutes charging through the field. The race was decided in 11 minutes, 20 seconds. That was enough time for Clanton to lap the 10th-place driver in the 24-car field. When the dust settled, he had a half-lap lead over the second-place driver.

Leonhardi grabbed the lead at the green, but Clanton was on his door post on the first lap. On lap two, Clanton pulled ahead in turn four and never looked back.

Perhaps the most incredible thing about the race was that Clanton had this dominant run in a car that he and the team built in only two days.

Fans had to look a little further back in the pack for door-to-door action on the slick track.

The 15-year-old Leonhardi kept Casey Roberts behind him in the 40-lap affair to earn his best result in the series. The pair lagged behind Clanton by 8.734 seconds at the end. For Leonhardi, that was a little more than half of the 16.113-second lap he posted in qualification. That quick time around the track earned him the M&W Transport "Haulin' It" award of $200 for the top speed.

Roberts was forced to settle for third, but it was a hard-fought position. Without the aid of a caution, he came from 11th on the grid--making him the hard charger of the race.

Michael Page and Jason Welshan rounded out the top five.

Page advanced from eighth to fourth over the course of the 11-minute race. Welshan gained two positions after starting seventh.

While he did not get the hard charger award, Clint Smith also advanced eight positions in the race. He finished seventh after starting 15th.
