Brandon Overton Scores Fourth Win Of The Season at Ponderosa
Brandon Overton's masterful maneuverings in traffic gave him his fourth win of the season at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY in the Schaeffer Oil Spring Nationals.
Brandon Overton led from start to finish in the Spring Showdown at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY, on Friday night to capture a $4,000 paycheck.
The race started with a brief battle between Overton and Jason Jameson.
Once Jameson was pushed firmly back to second, he was challenged for that position by Ricky Weiss. The second- and third-place tandem rubber-banded for much of the race, almost catching Overton and then falling back as traffic was cleared.
Overton's key to success was in how he was able to work the field. As he caught traffic, he was just as aggressive as he would have been trying to pass for position. The slide jobs employed on slower cars allowed Overton to keep his momentum while stalling the cars behind him.
In the final 10 laps, Overton claimed a full straightaway lead over Jameson in a race that went caution free.
This was Overton's first win in the Spring Nationals series and his fourth overall for the season.
Third-place finisher Mike Marlar was one of the hardest chargers. He surged from eighth to a top-five position on lap 20. Without any cautions to help close the gap, he was able to climb to only third.
Weiss crossed the line in fourth, with Kent Robinson rounding out the top five.
Eric Wells was the hard charger of the race, climbing seven positions. Unfortunately, he rolled off the next-to-last row and could climb to only 12th at the checkers.
The series heads to Florence Speedway in Union, KY, on Saturday, April 15 for its next show.
