Tim McCreadie Loses Track Of Laps While Winning The Bad Boy 98
Tim McCreadie beat Scott Bloomquist and Shannon Babb to the line in the Bad Boy 98 for his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season, but he thought it would take longer than it did.
Tim McCreadie led the Bad Boy Mowers 98 flag-to-flag at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, AR, for his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the season.
A caution with three laps remaining provided a stark reminder of just how disorienting long dirt track races can be, even on a relatively long three-eighths-mile speedway.
McCreadie had already recorded 95 laps led when a late-race caution fell. The Watertown, NY, driver was prepared to race as long as necessary but was grateful that he did not need to lead as many as thought he would.
"The scoreboard had some lights out on it and I thought there were 30 laps to go or something like that," McCreadie said.
The race had previously been slowed by three cautions. But the last segment was a long one, and that may have contributed to McCreadie's confusion. Darrell Lanigan slowed the action on lap 66 before heading to the pits. The caution would wave on lap 95 for an incident involving Hunter Rasdon.
"They told us on the radio that there were three to go, so I was relieved about that," McCreadie said. "The car felt good in clean air. I just didn't know where to be. I am glad I had Phillip (Snellen), my crew chief down there helping me out by giving me signals. I got lost out there a little bit just running the top."
McCreadie started up front, but the drivers in second and third had to navigate traffic.
Scott Bloomquist started on the outside pole before charging to second.
"Our car was good right from the start," Bloomquist said. "I would have liked to have had some more time to work on the car during the break before the feature, but it turned out OK for us. We would get close to him in traffic, and then a caution would come out."
Shannon Babb climbed to third from 14th, with Josh Richards and Don O'Neal rounding out the top five.
