Scott Bloomquist Looks To Defend His Bad Boy Mowers 98 Crown
Scott Bloomquist won the 2016 Bad Boy Mowers 98 and will try to defend his crown April 8 at Batesville Motor Speedway.
A year after speeding away with the win at the Bad Boy Mowers 98, Scott Bloomquist is returning to Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, AR, with his eyes on a repeat performance in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event this weekend.
Following Friday night's time trials and heats, a $20,000 prize will be up for grabs for the winner of the 98-lap A-Main on Saturday. The feature race will also be preceded by a pair of B-Mains on Saturday night.
Bloomquist grabbed his second win of the season in this race last year.
On a track that became rutted, taking the lead on lap six was important for the 53-year-old Hall of Famer.
"We set our own pace once we got the lead. I just wanted to make sure we didn't overdo it on the tires," Bloomquist said following the race.
The mark of a true dirt track star is the ability to adapt to changing track conditions. Bloomquist already has two wins this season, with the most recent coming this past Saturday at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City. He had to battle a slippery track that night.
Jimmy Owens and Earl Pearson Jr. joined Bloomquist on the podium in the Bad Boy Mowers 98 last year.
Owens is looking for his first win of the season. His best finish so far in 2017 was second place behind Bloomquist at East Alabama. That is exactly how Owens finished last year's edition of this race.
"He was just able to maneuver his car better around lapped traffic than I was," Owens said after failing to catch Bloomquist in Phenix City. "I got that clear track at the end, but it was too late. He was just too far out there."
Pearson was third in last year's Bad Boy Mowers 98. He grabbed his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win since May 2015 this past Friday at Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, GA.
