Volunteer Speedway's future remains uncertain after promoter Vic Hill announced Sunday on Facebook that the historic dirt track in Bulls Gap, Tenn., had been sold and would close following Oct. 22's FloRacing Night in America event, only to remove the announcement later that day.

Hill told DirtonDirt and FloRacing on Sunday that a potential sale of the 4/10-mile oval has not been finalized, despite previous conversations with track owners Joe and Phyllis Loven that led him to believe the facility would change hands before the end of the year.

In a Facebook post Sunday afternoon, Hill announced that the 52-year-old facility had been sold and would no longer operate as a racetrack, declaring that Oct. 22's FloRacing series event would mark its final race.

Hill quickly removed the post after speaking with track owner Phyllis Loven, who, according to Hill, clarified that a sale had not been completed. Hill said he made the announcement believing the sale was moving forward and wanting to give the track a proper sendoff if Oct. 22 proved to be its final race.

"If it's the last race there, I wanted it to be a big deal," Hill said.

Hill said he plans to seek further clarification from the Lovens, which have operated the facility since 1998, in the coming days, acknowledging that "I really don't know" what the future holds for the facility.

Attempts to reach Phyllis Loven for comment Sunday were unsuccessful.
