Giovanni Scelzi led all 30 laps of Saturday’s Heartland of America Showdown at Lakeside Speedway, edging Daison Pursley by 0.189 seconds for his second Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing victory of the season on a night that dramatically tightened the championship race.
A nine-car crash on a lap-seven restart sent Aaron Reutzel, Joel Myers Jr., Chris Martin and Kerry Madsen flipping, with all drivers climbing out. Points leader Rico Abreu, also involved, was subsequently disqualified after his team added fuel in the work area during the red flag.
Scelzi heads into Oct. 16-17’s championship weekend at Texas Motor Speedway trailing Abreu by 45 points, with Reutzel 77 back. Brady Bacon finished third Saturday, followed by Tanner Holmes and Tyler Courtney. Pursley recorded his third consecutive High Limit podium.
