Ricky Thornton Jr. completed a weekend sweep at Eldora Speedway, overtaking race-long leader Dale McDowell on lap 26 of Saturday’s UNOH Clash on the Wabash and collecting $55,000 for his eighth Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory of the season.
The Chandler, Ariz., driver survived a lap-48 restart and finished 1.213 seconds ahead of 15th-starting Devin Moran, with 23rd-starting Josh Rice third. Coupled with Friday’s victory and a $5,000 ARP sweep bonus, Thornton’s weekend earnings totaled $65,000.
Moran unofficially trimmed Brandon Sheppard’s championship lead to 45 points entering next week’s season finale. Hudson O’Neal, who entered Saturday second in points, suffered a major championship setback when a dropped engine valve forced him out after 11 laps.
