Brian Shirley’s long pursuit of a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory ended Saturday in one of the tour’s biggest races.
The 45-year-old Chatham, Ill., driver started ninth in Brownstown Speedway’s 47th annual Jackson 100, took the lead from Kyle Bronson on lap 24 and held off a late challenge from Josh Rice. Shirley’s first series victory paid $56,000, including a $5,000 bonus from UNOH and $1,000 from Steering Buddy.
