A field of 38 drivers is expected for the Angel of the Winds Skagit Nationals, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at Skagit Speedway.

Reigning High Limit Racing champion and defending Skagit Nationals winner Rico Abreu headlines the prospective entry list alongside series standouts Aaron Reutzel, Brent Marks, Tyler Courtney, James McFadden, Justin Peck and Tanner Thorson. Washington natives Kasey Kahne, Trey Starks, Jason Solwold, Colton Heath and Devon Borden are among the drivers representing the home-state contingent.

Following a successful week at the 72nd Mike Curb Gold Cup Race of Champions presented by NOS Energy Drink, the Skagit Nationals will use essentially the same format across its three-day program.

Friday’s Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race pays $26,000 to win and $2,000 to start, while Saturday’s finale offers a $126,000 winner’s prize.

Drivers will pill draw before qualifying Thursday and Friday, with the entire field timed in one group before four heat races are lined up by a six-car inversion.

The top five from each heat transfer to the feature, which is lined up by accumulated qualifying and heat points with the top eight inverted, while four more drivers advance from the consolation to complete the 24-car field.

Points earned across both preliminary programs are combined to determine Saturday’s lineups, with the top four locking directly into the $126,000-to-win finale. All remaining drivers are placed into four qualifiers, with the top four finishers from each advancing to the feature.

Qualifier winners join the four preliminary lock-ins in a redraw for the first eight starting positions, while four consolation transfers fill the final two rows.
