Dylan Bloomfield led 21 of 30 laps to capture his first career Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing victory in a chaotic Gold Cup Race of Champions prelim feature filled with crashes and cautions, topping 13th-starting Rico Abreu by 1.242 seconds at the finish.
Series points leader Aaron Reutzel crashed on lap two, early leader Jett Yantis went around on lap eight and Thursday’s Gold Cup points leader Kaleb Montgomery spun from 13th a lap later. James McFadden then spun while battling Bloomfield for the lead, triggering a multicar crash that swept up Giovanni Scelzi, Brent Marks and Shane Golobic.
Tim Kaeding briefly wrestled the lead away for laps 21-22 before Bloomfield surged back ahead and stayed there to the finish.
