Ninth-starting Rico Abreu led the final three laps of Thursday’s 30-lap 72nd annual Gold Cup Race of Champions prelim feature at Silver Dollar Speedway, surging to the victory after four drivers shared time out front.
California’s Max Mittry paced a race-high 18 laps, leading the opening eight circuits before returning to the point from laps 12-21. He settled for fourth. Bud Kaeding led laps 9-11 before finishing sixth, while fifth-place Shane Golobic controlled laps 22-27 before Abreu took command for the final three.
