High Limit Racing’s West Coast swing continues Friday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., for the second night of a three-race weekend and second of 10 events over a 17-day stretch through California, Oregon and Washington.
Aaron Reutzel arrives at Thunderbowl with the series points lead after opening the trip with his ninth High Limit victory of the season Thursday at Santa Maria Speedway. Reutzel led the final 14 laps of the 35-lap feature and beat James McFadden by 1.907 seconds, while Tanner Holmes, Tim Kaeding and Brent Marks completed the top five.
The victory produced a significant early swing in the championship race. Reutzel entered the West Coast trip eight points behind Rico Abreu, but Abreu’s 17th-place finish at Santa Maria helped Reutzel turn that deficit into a 30-point advantage entering Friday.
The weekend concludes Saturday at Placerville Speedway before the tour heads to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for Aug. 27-29’s 72nd Gold Cup Race of Champions.
