Hudson O’Neal bounced back from a disappointing night at Marshalltown Speedway to capture Wednesday’s 50-lap FloRacing Night in America feature at Mason City Motor Speedway, earning $20,000 and his eighth career series victory.
O’Neal, whose first FloRacing tour victory came July 22 at Fairbury Speedway, led the opening six laps before Nick Hoffman moved ahead, then used a lap-21 restart to take control for good. Hoffman closed within a half-second with 15 laps remaining but didn’t draw closer again until the final circuit, finishing 0.361 of a second behind after taking second back from Bobby Pierce.
Hoffman and Pierce made contact in turn two with four laps remaining, a battle that left Hoffman “pretty pissed” while Pierce acknowledged he “probably didn’t give Nick enough room.” After the checkered flag, Hoffman struck the slowing Jake Timm in turn one, significantly damaging both cars.
