Brandon Overton and Josh Rice pulled off last-lap victories in Friday’s pair of 25-lap, $6,000-to-win Sunoco North-South 100 semifeatures at Florence Speedway.
Overton regained the lead from Mike Marlar on the final lap of the opener to end a 15-month Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series winless drought. Marlar, Thursday’s second semifeature winner, slipped underneath Overton on lap 24, but the polesitting Overton went back ahead in turn two on the final circuit and won by 0.190 of a second.
Rice, the local favorite from Crittenden, Ky., delivered an equally dramatic finish in the second semifeature, overtaking Bobby Pierce on the final lap and brushing the turn four wall on his way to a 0.252-second victory. Pierce had overtaken polesitter Brandon Sheppard on lap 11 and led through a lap-23 caution before the fourth-starting Rice made the winning move.
