Brandon Sheppard and Mike Marlar split Thursday’s pair of 25-lap, $6,000-to-win semifeatures that opened the Sunoco North-South 100 weekend at Florence Speedway.
Sheppard made an inside move exiting turn four to overtake polesitter Chris Ferguson on lap 13 of the first semifeature and controlled the rest of the distance for his first career victory at Florence. Sheppard pulled away during the second half to beat Garrett Alberson by 3.116 seconds.
Marlar rallied from the eighth starting spot to win the second semifeature, diving underneath Brandon Overton entering turn three on lap 20 and leading the final six circuits. Marlar crossed the finish line 1.244 seconds ahead of Overton, while ninth-starting Hudson O’Neal finished third.
