Saturday’s Hampton Heat at Langley Speedway is the middle leg of the Virginia Triple Crown. It’s the “Preakness Stakes” of Late Model Stock Car racing if you will. And much like horse racing’s Triple Crown, sometimes the winner of the first event doesn’t run the second event. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at the standings heading to Langley on Saturday.

Kaden Honeycutt won the first leg, the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 at South Boston Speedway, in dominating fashion. Honeycutt is technically the top horse heading to Langley, however Honeycutt will not be running this weekend’s Hampton Heat. Honeycutt will instead be racing with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Indianapolis Raceway Park this weekend where he’s trying to narrow the gap on the points lead.

So that means that Trevor Ward, who won the Virginia Triple Crown in 2023, is atop the standings thanks to his second-place finish at South Boston. Landon Pembleton, the two-time winner of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300, is in second-place thanks to his third-place finish at SoBo.

Carson Brown and Landen Lewis finished fourth and fifth respectively at SoBo, so they should be fourth and fifth in the standings. But they too will not be racing this weekend due to other arrangements, which moves Caden Kvapil up to third and Connor Hall to fourth. Trey Crews jumps from eighth to fifth, while Blake Stallings moves up to sixth.

Michael Bumgarner, Woody Howard, Carson Loftin, and Brandon Lopez will round out the top 10 in the standings thanks to being entered for the Hampton Heat.
