The Al Belt Custom Homes Silver Dollar Nationals is at Shelby County Speedway for the first time in the event's 16 years as Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition began Thursday with a 50-lap, $15,000-to-win preliminary won by Brandon Sheppard.
Shelby County is the third event home in five years. After 12 editions (2011-22) at the now-closed I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., the event moved to Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., from 2023-25 before landing this year in Harlan, Iowa.
Friday's program features time trials and heat races that set Saturday's lineups, culminating with an 80-lap, $52,000-to-win finale. Saturday's card also includes consolations and a 20-lap, $3,000-to-win non-qualifier feature.
Bobby Pierce, fresh off Tuesday's Lucas Oil victory at nearby Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, skipped Thursday's opener after his father, Bob, suffered a health scare that required surgery. Pierce said he expects to return for Friday and Saturday.
