One of the premier Midget racing events of the season began Tuesday night at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the BC39 opened with the Stoops Star Spangled Showdown. After 63 drivers began the night in pursuit of a victory, Drake Edwards emerged victorious, earning the biggest win of his career.

Edwards, of Surprise, Arizona, started the 30-lap feature from the fourth position and took the lead from polesitter Gavin Miller on Lap 7 before dominating the final 23 laps.

Kevin Thomas Jr. moved forward from seventh to finish second at the checkered flag, while Miller rounded out the podium. Zach Wigal and Jake Swanson completed the top five. Gunnar Setser drove from 21st to 11th to earn hard-charger honors. 

Points earned during Tuesday night's preliminary feature will be used to set the lineup for Wednesday's qualifying races. The 39-lap main event will pay $20,039 to the winner.
