Mark Whitener crossed the finish line first in Saturday's 52nd annual National 100 preliminary feature at East Alabama Motor Speedway but wasn't awarded the $10,000 victory.

Later finding out he didn't meet minimum weight, the team of the Middleburg, Fla., driver claimed the reason they were light at the scales is because they didn't put enough fuel in the car. The infraction yielded the 35-lap prelim victory ahead of Sunday's 100-lap, $30,000-to-win finale to Jimmy Owens, who initially finished 0.939 seconds behind Whitener upon Saturday's checkered flag.

Friday's prelim winner Brandon Overton and reigning National 100 champ Tyler Erb will start from the front row of Sunday's 100-lap finale at the 3/8-mile Alabama clay oval.
