Carl Short’s 45th annual Dirt Track World Championship visited Ohio’s Eldora Speedway for the third consecutive season where the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series crowned Devin Moran its newest champ at the Tony Stewart-owned half-mile.

Running down early leader Chris Madden and fending off multiple counterattacks from the Gray Court, S.C., veteran determined to vanquish his longtime Eldora crown jewel drought, Bobby Pierce captured his second straight DTWC title in leading 44 of 100 laps for the $100,000 laurels.

Pierce's victory, which came 1.390 seconds over Madden, snapped a 15-race winless drought, his longest since he went 16 races between triumphs from July 14-Sept. 3 in 2022. Moran locked up his first career Lucas Oil title in finishing third ahead of 18th-finishing Ricky Thornton Jr. and 14th-finishing Jonathan Davenport.

Thornton, who started eighth and never ran as high as fifth, saw his title hopes crash down when he clobbered the Turn 1 wall on Lap 64, which collected a hard-charging Davenport, who powered from 19th to eighth in 10 laps after pitting on Lap 54.

Thornton had slipped back to as low as 10th with crumpled right-rear spoiler damage, which had fixed during a lap-30 caution period. He quickly climbed back to the fifth position by the halfway mark, but couldn't advance higher.

Nine cautions slowed the Lucas Oil season finale: Lap 7 for a slowing Daulton Wilson; Lap 14 for debris in Turn 2; Lap 30 for a slowing Hudson O'Neal, who clobbered the outside wall running 10th; Lap 43 for a slowing Garrett Alberson, who ran as high as third before tagging the wall; Lap 54 for Dan Ebert, who slowed out of 13th; Lap 61 for Thornton, who ran into the Turn 1 and collected Davenport; Lap 71 for Josh Rice; Lap 76 for debris that came off Davenport's quarter-panel; and Lap 88 for Tim McCreadie, who eventually rallied to finish seventh.
