A new addition to the dirt racing calendar is set to debut this September with the inaugural “Road to the Dome” at Coles County Speedway. The event will take place on September 28 at the tight, 1/8-mile dirt bullring in Mattoon, Illinois, offering fans a peek of what’s to come during the Gateway Dirt Nationals in December.

The event, which will feature a $10,000-to-win Super Late Model race and a $2,000-to-win Modified race, will be streamed live exclusively on FloRacing.

“At FloRacing we are all about creativity and ingenuity, so this new event has us excited. Brian Rieck with Coles County Speedway has been working extremely hard over the past year to make his facility a top notch destination for Micro Sprints, and now it’ll be really cool to see full-sized cars throwing dirt there,” noted FloRacing’s Senior Director of Global Rights Acquisition, Ben Shelton.

Similar to the Gateway Dirt Nationals, the Road to the Dome is an invitation-only event that will feature many of the biggest stars in dirt racing. Confirmed drivers for the event include recent World 100 winner and defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Ricky Thornton Jr., as well as former Gateway Dirt Nationals winners Brandon Sheppard, Tyler Carpenter and Tyler Erb.

Prairie Dirt Classic winner Brian Shirley, Illinois star Jason Feger, Chris Ferguson, and “Super Shepp” Steve Sheppard Jr. are among the other drivers planning to be in attendance.

With prestige and bragging rights on the line, this event is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated dirt track races of the fall.

“This isn’t just another race night — this is an elite-level shootout,” said promoter Brian Rieck. “We’re bringing together a handpicked roster of top-tier drivers and putting on a show that fans won’t forget.”

The event format will include single-car qualifying, heats, a dash, a b-main and features for both divisions.
