“High Limit approved the lease of the franchise to Tony Stewart Racing. So Tony Stewart Racing is going to lease the franchise from Rico Abreu Racing. And they will continue to operate under Tony Stewart Racing and that's how the franchise is going to work,” said Abreu, who’s earned one of the 10 available franchises that High Limit’s rewarding its best points-finishing teams from the 2024 and ’25 seasons.
“And the value, I feel, is going to continue to increase on these franchises just with where our sport’s going,”Abreu added. “It’s like really cool stuff, what's happening right now. And I honestly feel very fortunate to be in this position with High Limit and these franchises.”
Abreu feels him merging his team under TSR’s ownership is simply “very good for the sport” because it enables him to focus on growing his brand more effectively while Stewart provides his Ricky Warner-led team with ample resources and a robust assembly of partners.
Though TSR has fielded a full-time WoO team since 2001, what High Limit has to offer in the years ahead couldn’t be passed up by Abreu and Stewart.
“I’m very committed to growing Sprint Car racing. I feel like as I've gotten older, I appreciate the little things in the sport more,” Abreu said. “I’ve been more receptive to growth in my own brand and I’m outgoing to the race fans. I have this genuine love for the race fans.
“Our sport is going through like a mega growth period right now and like I when I sat down with Tony and discussed all this, I just thought it would be really cool for, you know, me to go over there and race his car and go race for a championship and go race for the Knoxville Nationals and continue the legacy for him where he doesn't have to be in an awkward position.”
Abreu would like to launch his tenure at TSR during Feb. 4-7’s DIRTcar Nationals at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park before the 2026 High Limit season likely begins once again next March.
“I think that it's gonna be our best, yeah. I think it would be really good for us to go down there and start the season in respects to, you know, World Racing Group and compete,” Abreu said. “I have nothing against World Racing Group and their brand. I mean, they have some incredible events. And, you know, I know Tony is very adamant about his relationship with them and, you know, what they've done for Eldora (Speedway) and all those major events that he puts on there with (World Racing Group CEO) Brian Carter.
“The reasoning for us to transfer this TSR thing to High Limit is just the franchise system, it’s hard to turn that down with this opportunity.”
