For the 77th time, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will take on the New Hampshire Motor Speedway this Saturday for a matinee at the Magic Mile. Nearly 30 of the mightiest Modifieds will rip around the one-mile oval in Loudon, New Hampshire for 100 laps on Saturday morning.

Headlining the entry list is the return of the six-time champion, Doug Coby. The Milford, Connecticut driver will pilot the No. 7NY for Tommy Baldwin Racing for the first time this season. Coby and Baldwin have won together four times since they first partnered together in 2022. Baldwin’s son, Luke, has piloted the 7NY all season, but he will be in Virginia on Saturday as his chase for a second SMART Modified Tour championship in a row continues. So instead, it will be Coby filling the seat in pursuit of a fifth trip to victory lane at the Magic Mile.

But a trip to victory lane at New Hampshire Motor Speedway now goes through Justin Bonsignore, who has won this race each of the last two years. In fact, Bonsignore’s victory in the 2023 race here was a photo-finish with Coby. Bonsignore won by 0.045-second that evening. Bonsignore’s path to the victory was a little bit easier last year as he won by three-tenths of a second over his cousin, Kyle Bonsignore, after leading 76 of the 100 laps.

Bonsignore heads to Loudon in need of a strong run as he trails points leader Austin Beers by 17 points following the last race at Oswego where Bonsignore finished 10th while Beers finished fourth.

Speaking of Beers, the Pennsylvania driver could use a career day on Saturday at Loudon to pad his points lead as he searches for his first NWMT championship. In three prior starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Beers has finished in the top five just one time. That was a fourth-place finish in 2023. Aside from that, he finished ninth a year ago and 11th in 2022. Beers has yet to lead a lap at Loudon.

Meanwhile, Patrick Emerling sits not too far behind Bonsignore for second in the standings. Emerling trails Bonsignore by five points and is 22 points behind Beers as he also searches for his first NWMT title. He’s also searching for his first NHMS victory as well, as in 24 starts to date Emerling has led just 27 laps. Dating back to his Loudon debut in 2011, Emerling has five DNF’s, nine top five finishes, and 12 top 10 finishes. That said, Emerling has finished in the top five in each of the last three trips to the Magic Mile with a third in 2022, a fifth in 2023, and a fourth-place finish last year.

Things are tight right behind Emerling in the standings as well, as Craig Lutz and Matt Hirschman find themselves tied for fourth in the standings, 29 points behind Beers.

Lutz currently holds the tiebreaker as he has two victories this year to Hirschman’s one. And Lutz’s victories might be a good indicator for what happens on Saturday morning as Lutz seems to be the companion weekend master. Lutz rode the elevator to victory lane when the Modifieds raced on NASCAR All-Star Race Sunday at North Wilkesboro Speedway. He also scored the win as part of the companion weekend event at Richmond Raceway in August. But at Loudon, Lutz has had a lot of famine and not a lot of feast. In 13 starts, he’s failed to finish five of them, including the last two years in a row. A mechanical issue put Lutz out of the race after just four laps in 2023, and a crash ended his race on lap 55 one year ago. His best finish at NHMS is fifth in 2020, and that is his only top five.

Meanwhile for Hirschman, Saturday’s race will end a long streak. Hirschman will be making his first start at New Hampshire Motor Speedway since September of 2014. Hirschman made 12 starts at NHMS between 2006 and 2014, but has not made the trip to Loudon since crashing and finishing 26th in 2014. In those 12 starts, Hirschman scored two top five finishes and five top 10 finishes, but had zero laps led along with three DNF’s.

Saturday’s Mohegan Sun 100 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will go green at 9:15 a.m. ET live on FloRacing. Just four races remain on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour calendar for the 2025 season including Saturday’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
