For the first time since the event's inception in 1967, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned Hillbilly Hundred heads to Pennsylvania's Lernerville Speedway this weekend, with action beginning Friday ($10,000-to-win) and rounding out Saturday ($30,000-to-win).

Getting the jump around pole-starting Ricky Thornton Jr. on the initial start and holding back challenges from multiple drivers thereafter, Garrett Alberson commanded all 40 laps of Friday's 57th annual Hillbilly Hundred opener at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. Alberson, who pocketed $10,000, beat Devin Moran by 0.852 seconds.

The 36-year-old Alberson collected his third career full-field Lucas Oil victory and second of the season (along with July 10’s victory at Iowa’s 34 Raceway). Alberson turned back multiple challenges from Ricky Thornton Jr. (who ran second the first four laps), Jonathan Davenport (second from laps 5-26) and Moran (second the final 14 laps).

Moran went fifth-to-second on the final lap-25 restart and stalked Alberson the final 14 laps, never letting him lead by more than a second.

Former Lucas Oil Series champ Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., attempting to make his first start in nearly three years, lost an engine in the first heat race and is done competing for the weekend.

Four stoppages slowed the 26-minute feature, including a lap-four red flag for 10th-running Michael Norris, who flipped over the berm in turns three and four. He emerged OK. Other stoppages: lap four for Dan Ebert, who clobbered the water barrels in turn four upon slipping off the track; lap 14 for Tyler Erb, who slowed out of 19th and lap 25 for 16th-running Boom Briggs, who spun in turn two.

JCM Motorsports is expected to make it for Saturday's finale with Joseph Joiner back behind the wheel of the No. 19m Rocket. Daulton Wilson announced via social media that he will not make it to Lernerville due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
