Donny Schatz Racing For Knoxville Nationals Champ On WoO West Coast
Donny Schatz is teaming up with a multitime Knoxville Nationals-winning crew chief for the World of Outlaws West Coast swing.

From the support of Big Game Motorsports to another elite partnership, Donny Schatz has found his third part-time deal since Aug. 12's release from Tony Stewart Racing.
The 10-time World of Outlaws champion is teaming up with three-time Knoxville Nationals champion crew chief Paul Silva in the Kevin Kozlowski-owned machine for the WoO's six-race West Coast swing that begins Sept/ 5-6 at Vado (N.M.) Speedway Park.
That stretch also includes Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway on Sept. 12, Perris Auto Speedway on Sept. 13 and Sept. 19-20's Dennis Roth Classic at Thunderbowl Raceway paying $83,000-to-win.

Schatz completes his six-race stint with Lunstra Motorsports in this Friday and Saturday's L.G. Everist Huset’s Shootout at South Dakota's Huset’s Speedway. He said the deal came together through JVI Group Inc.'s president Sam Elicker — a longtime York Springs, Pa.-based sponsor on Silva's No. 57 driven by Kyle Larson.
“He wanted me to call Paul and drive for him on the West Coast. Obviously, it’s not Paul’s car. It’s not the 57. It’s Kevin’s (Kozlowski) car," Schatz told the World of Outlaws in a press release. "It’s a great opportunity. I consider Paul one of the best in the sport. To be able to drive for the caliber of someone like him and that group of guys is really an honor. Glad they’re giving me the opportunity to go out west.”
Kozlowski will be the fourth car owner he'll race for over the last month come Sept. 5 at Vado. His 11th-place finish in Aug. 9's Knoxville Nationals turned out being his final race after 18 years for TSR. He's since been supported by Tod Quiring and Lunstra Motorsports — stringing together finishes of 10th, 14th, eighth and seventh for Dave Lunstra since his first-lap exit out of Aug. 15's feature at Ogilvie (Minn.) Raceway.
“Paul is a very quiet, reserved person similar to myself,” Schatz said of Silva. “Back in the day, he’d come to TSR and hung out with Jimmy (Carr) a lot. I’ve seen how hard he works. I’ve seen how he doesn’t spend anything that’s unnecessary, so I have the utmost respect for what he’s done. His record speaks for itself, just like mine does. It’s going to be quite an honor to race with him. I can tell you after we got this situation done, it wasn’t an hour later, he was texting me, ‘How much do you weigh? What about this? You OK with that?’ So, he’s obviously thinking ahead on all of these things that maybe some people take for granted.”
Kozlowski's Works Limited machine just rounded out a five-race stint with Kubota High Limit Racing driver Spencer Bayston, who finished second, fifth, second, fifth and seventh in High Limit's California swing.
“It’s really overwhelming,” Schatz said. “The part that’s hard to decipher is what’s right and what’s wrong. I’ve had so many great people stick their neck out.
"You’ve got all these people. It’s so overwhelming. It’s almost like you want to tell them 'yes' because of the great opportunities. Some people have driven for a lot of different people, and I haven’t. Obviously, it was cool to say I drove for the Big Game Motorsports guys and got to work with Cody Jacobs. Now, I’m going to get to say I worked with Paul Silva driving Kevin’s car.”
