California's most prestigious Sprint Car event of the year takes place this weekend with the 71st Mike Curb Gold Cup Race of Champions presented by NOS Energy Drink hosts Kubota High Limit Racing for two nights of prelim action before Saturday's $100,071-to-win finale.
Driving to his second straight victory aboard the Ridge & Sons Racing No. 87, Justin Sanders held off Giovanni Scelzi on a green-white-checkered restart for Friday's prelim night victory at the Chico, Calif., oval.
Tanner Thorson rounded out the podium in third from the 11th-starting spot.
