Slinger Speedway To Pay Tribute To Alan Kulwicki With Sunday's Race
Slinger Speedway will pay tribute to Alan Kulwicki with the running of Sunday's 77-lap "AK77."

Super Late Models will take to the high banks of Slinger Speedway on Sunday night in the Alan Kulwicki Memorial “AK77,” which is expected to be one of the biggest races of the 2025 season at Slinger.
While no official entry list has been released, it’s easy to assume that a majority of this year’s Slinger Nationals field will be back at Wisconsin’s baddest bullring to race in memory of the late, great Alan Kulwicki.
Drivers like Andrew Morrissey, Jesse Bernhagen, Michael Bilderback, Dennis Prunty, Alex Prunty, Steve Apel, and Brad Mueller are all expected to be in competition on Sunday night for this 77-lap race.
2024 Slinger Nationals champion Brad Mueller went on to win the AK77 last year as well, in what he called at the time a “redemption race” because he didn’t actually cross the finish line first to win the Slinger Nationals. Mueller held off Alex Prunty and Levon Van Der Geest to score the win in the 2024 AK77.
Alan Kulwicki, who grew up in Greenfield, Wisconsin, which is just barely 30 minutes south of Slinger Speedway, achieved plenty of success on the Slinger high banks before moving south to pursue a career in NASCAR. Kulwicki won two Slinger Nationals titles, including four Slinger Nationals races, in the years before the Nationals became a singular event.
After moving to North Carolina, Kulwicki, driving for his own team, won the NASCAR Winston Cup championship in 1992 in what is typically regarded as the greatest championship battle in NASCAR history.
Kulwicki tragically passed away in a plane crash on Thursday, April 1 of 1993 in a field near I-81 in Blountville, Tennessee. Kulwicki was returning to Bristol Motor Speedway from a Hooters sponsor event when his plane went down. The National Transportation Safety Board said the crash was due to the pilot’s failure to use the anti-ice system on the airplane to clear ice from the engine inlet system.
The Alan Kulwicki Memorial “AK77” has been held each year at Slinger Speedway since his passing in 1993. Kulwicki was also posthumously inducted onto the Slinger Speedway Wall of Fame in 2014.
Joining the Super Late Models on the card for Sunday night are the Sportsman, Legend, and Bandoleros.
