Justin Grant plans to race following a fractured left foot that he suffered at Lawrenceburg Speedway just two days ago. Grant will be in action on Tuesday night with the USAC National Sprint Cars at Kokomo Speedway with a hand-controlled braking device inside the cockpit of his race car.

During the feature event of Sunday's third round of Indiana Sprint Week at Lawrenceburg, Grant was involved in a hard multi-car crash with 13 laps remaining. He was running in fourth on a restart when the front-end of his car made a sudden jolt to the right coming out of the fourth turn. Grant hit the wall and turned over, along with Mitchel Moles and Kyle Cummins.

Grant was transported to a nearby hospital and had surgery on his broken foot, but now plans to race his NOS Energy Drink Topp Motorsports No. 4 just two days removed from the incident.

Grant will do so with the help of hand controls devised by his crew chief, Jeff Walker. Walker explained that they've outfitted Grant's car with two options that he can try out to activate the brake instead of his foot. One is a long, curved metal bar, and the other is similar to a motorcycle brake.

"We knew Justin wouldn't be able to use his foot since it has pins and screws and it's a mess," Walker said in a video posted by USAC to social media on Tuesday afternoon. "We came up with a hand brake. It's basically like what they'd use in a Silver Crown car for a clutch, but we're using it to brake. I also called my friend Irish Saunders, and his son (Eric) is a paraplegic and he races Sprint Cars and he came up with a motorcycle device for a brake. When Justin gets here, we're going to ask him which option he wants to run tonight."

Grant is currently second in the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car standings behind Kyle Cummins. He sits outside the top 10 in the latest Indiana Sprint Week points. Grant currently has 62 USAC National Sprint Car wins after his opening night win at the Dirt Track at IMS. He's tied with Brady Bacon for second all-time and is one away from Dave Darland's solo-leading 63-wins.

Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET tonight from Kokomo Speedway. You can watch all of the action at the track or live on FloRacing.
