We’re two-thirds of the way through the 2025 Virginia Triple Crown now that the 17th Annual Hampton Heat at Langley Speedway is in the books. Matt Waltz got redemption in the perfect manner on Saturday night, scoring the biggest win of his life in dominating fashion over Connor Hall and Brenden Queen.

Unfortunately for Waltz, his chances at the $20,000 Virginia Triple Crown championship were decimated when he was disqualified following his runner-up finish at South Boston Speedway for a post-race technical infraction.

That means that with his win at South Boston and his second-place finish at Langley, Connor Hall is in prime position to score his first Virginia Triple Crown championship at Martinsville Speedway at the end of September. Hall has an average finish of 1.5, a full five positions better than second place.

Second place currently belongs to Chesapeake, Virginia’s Woody Howard. The veteran racer has only made one full Virginia Triple Crown attempt in his career, which came back in 2018. But he didn’t get the type of finishes that year that he’s getting right now. Howard finished ninth at South Boston and fourth on Saturday at Langley Speedway to give him an average finish of 6.5. In 2018, Howard’s best finish was seventh at South Boston. He finished 21st at Langley and 11th at Martinsville that year. Howard has not attempted the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville since 2021 when he failed to qualify.

Tied with Howard is Ronnie Bassett Jr. The North Carolina driver finished fifth at South Boston at the end of June, and then finished eighth on Saturday at Langley. Bassett had never run all three Triple Crown events in one season prior to this year. In fact, Saturday’s race was his debut in the Hampton Heat. Bassett has made three starts at Martinsville with a best finish of eighth one year ago.

Sitting fourth in the standings is a driver that nobody would have expected to put up these types of results in these races, and that would be the 14-year-old Long Island driver, Darren Krantz Jr. Krantz is making his first starts in all three races that make up the Triple Crown this year, doing so against drivers much more experienced than he is, and yet he’s still putting up extremely strong finishes. Krantz finished second at South Boston, then backed that up with a 13th-place finish for an average finish of 7.5.

Rounding out the top five in the Triple Crown standings is Kade Brown for R&S Race Cars. Brown finished fifth on Saturday at Langley after finishing 11th at South Boston in June. That gives Brown an average finish of 8 heading to Martinsville in two months.

With an average finish of 9, Brandon Pierce is sixth in the standings. Ryan Millington is seventh with an average finish of 9.5. Late Model Stock Car rookie Carson Loftin is eighth in the standings with an average finish of 10. Hettinger Racing’s Parker Eatmon has an average finish of 10.5, which puts him ninth, and rounding out the top 10 is Doug Barnes Jr. with an average finish of 11.5.

The entire top 10 in the Virginia Triple Crown standings can be found below.

The 2025 Virginia Triple Crown will conclude on Saturday, September 27 at Martinsville Speedway with the running of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 live on FloRacing.
