CARS Tour Best Appearing Throwback Contest Returns With Higher Stakes
Voting for the CARS Tour Best Appearing Throwback at Hickory Motor Speedway will take place on FloRacing for the third year in a row.

Hickory Motor Speedway in early August has played host to one of the CARS Tour’s biggest races for nearly a decade, but this year the “Throwback Classic” presented by FloRacing will be the biggest one yet. On Saturday, August 2, $50,000 is on the line for winning the Late Model Stock Car feature and $30,000 will go to the winner of the Pro Late Model feature. And to go along with that, FloRacing will once again host the “Best Appearing Car” award voting on its platform.
FloRacing and the zMAX CARS Tour have announced that the fan vote for this year’s best appearing car contest will be hosted by FloRacing for the third year in a row, but just like the race this year’s contest will be even more lucrative to the winner.
This year, the winner will receive a $1,000 prize from TexaCon Cut Stone, a $500 prize from FloRacing, as well as a full Next Gen Body Kit from Five Star Race Car Bodies. The runner-up in voting will receive a free car wrap from The Decal Source, while third-place will receive a full decal set.

“Throwback Classic weekend has been one of the marquee events on the zMAX CARS Tour calendar for years, but this year it’s so much bigger,” said Karsyn Elledge, CARS Tour Partnerships and Marketing Manager. “FloRacing has stepped up in a big way by making the purses for these races so large, and now they’re stepping up again by hosting our best appearing car voting for the third year in a row. We’re thankful that FloRacing, as well as Five Star, TexaCon Cut Stone, and The Decal Source want to grow grassroots racing and give back as much as they do.”
For the second year in a row, the teams have full range to choose whatever throwback scheme they’d like. Last year’s race saw multiple Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon throwbacks, while others ran schemes dedicated to family members, team owners, and other heroes of the sport.
“The Throwback weekend for the CARS Tour has found a way to get bigger every year since the first one back in 2017, but this year the Throwback Classic is being taken to a new level,” said Rob Blount of FloRacing. “We’re thrilled that we’re able to play a part in making this event the biggest in CARS Tour history and one of the biggest in pavement Late Model history overall, from the purse increases to this best appearing car award. It’s awesome to see companies like Five Star, TexaCon, and The Decal Source join FloRacing in this initiative as well. August 2 can’t get here soon enough so we can see all these throwback schemes and who will be winning the big money in each race.”
Teams from both the Late Model Stock Car and Pro Late Model divisions are eligible to win the award.
A full photo gallery of the throwback schemes will be posted on FloRacing.com and the FloRacing Facebook page.
Voting will take place on FloRacing.com and will be open throughout the weekend, starting on the evening of Friday, August 1. Voting will conclude on Sunday night at 11:59 p.m. ET. The winner will be announced on Monday, August 4 and will be presented with their awards during pre-race ceremonies at the next CARS Tour race at Anderson Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 16.
