The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series returned to Lucas Oil Speedway on Friday for opening night of the two-day 19th annual CMH Diamond Classic at the Wheatland, Mo., oval that's part of a seven-race, 10-day stretch for the series.

Rebounding from a tumultuous Thursday night at 34 Raceway in which he was part of three cautions, Ricky Thornton Jr. led all 40 laps from the pole for the $15,000 victory Friday. He topped Jonathan Davenport by more than three seconds.

Thornton won for the first time since May 17's $50,000 Lucas Oil victory at Eagle (Neb.) Raceway. It's his 45th full-field Lucas Oil win, which brings him within one victory of Don O'Neal for fourth-most all-time. 

Third-finishing Clay Harris snagged his first top-five series finish of the season. One caution slowed the 14-minute feature on the third lap when Kayden Clatt spun in turn two.
