For the first time, the Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) Better Half Dash presented by Speedway Motorsports will be streamed live on FloRacing this Tuesday, May 20. For those of you who don’t know about the annual event, here is what it’s all about. 

The 12th Annual Better Half Dash is a race that features the wives or girlfriends of NASCAR drivers and crew chiefs. The ladies race has become a beloved annual tradition within the NASCAR community. For the second straight year it will take place at Trackhouse Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina. The popular karting facility, opened in 2012, is modeled after the famed Kartdromo Parma circuit in Italy. The Better Half Dash will take place on the short-course layout of the track providing some action-packed racing.

The Better Half Dash will have a $5,000 payday in 2025, which will be awarded to the race-winner’s charity of choice. In addition to the purse, 100% of the proceeds raised during the racing event will go to each driver’s charity. 

In an exciting twist, MRO will be debuting an in-race fundraising program called Cash2Dash. From the start of the broadcast at 6pm, fans can donate to their favorite Better Half Dash driver. Before the feature event’s final two-lap segment, the competitor with the most money raised, can move up to the second position, or a position of their choice, for the final race’s start. All money raised during the Cash2Dash will go to each driver’s selected charity.

“This event is something that’s always been very special to us,” says Billy Mauldin, President of MRO. “The role reversal, with the husband or boyfriend standing to the side to coach and spot, some for the first time, allows them to experience some of the anxiety and stress that their better halves go through each and every week. It’s also a  chance for these unsung heroes of our sport to showcase the talent that they have, but few know about. With the addition of FloRacing, our exciting Cash2Dash idea, and some new and hungry competitors, I think this is going to be a very impactful event.” 

Speaking of broadcasts, the Better Half Dash will be streamed live on the FloRacing platform. Matthew Dillner, of FloRacing and co-host of Lost Speedways on Peacock TV, will host a three-person broadcast booth with long-time NASCAR announcer Rick Allen and NASCAR Xfinity driver Anthony Alfredo. NASCAR Cup Series driver Noah Gragson will join NASCAR personality Jose Castillo as the event’s pit reporters. 

“This lineup for a broadcast team is going to be off-the-chain fun,” says Matthew Dillner, Senior Racing Producer at FloRacing, “The Better Half Dash has always been such a fun event on the calendar during the NASCAR season, I’ve always enjoyed how MRO has created events that bring our community together in fun ways. Relationships are at the core of their ministry and this event has strengthened relationships and created bonds in the industry that will last forever.”

The Better Half Dash feature event will be in three race segments. The first will be a seven lap race. Then the field of ladies resets for a five-lap race. After the Cash2Dash fundraising winner is announced a final three-lap shootout will determine the winner.

HISTORY OF THE BETTER HALF DASH

2025 marks the 12th running of the Better Half Dash. For the first seven years, the event was held on the Charlotte Motor Speedway frontstretch 1/4- mile oval using Bandolero racecars. The Charity race was paused in 2018 and returned in 2021 as an iRacing event. After two seasons on the popular simulation platform, the race moved to its new home at the Trackhouse Motorplex. Nine different drivers have won the event with McCall Gaulding Smith, wife of NASCAR Cup Series driver Zane Smith, scoring the most wins by earning her record three wins in-a-row.  

HOW TO ATTEND?

Fans can purchase tickets to attend the Better Half Dash in person at Trackhouse Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina.  The in-person experience will feature popular industry vendors and local food trucks. Tickets will be ten-dollars and can be purchased on-site or in-advance at MotorRacingOutreach.com
