2025 Indianapolis 500 Thursday Practice Results

Reigning two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Josef Newgarden swept both overall and non-tow top speeds during Thursday's third practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which for the first time this week went start to finish without being interrupted by rain.

Newgarden's lap of 226.632 mph was the time to beat. After going 13th-fastest in overall speeds Wednesday, Kyle Larson clocked the 17th-fastest lap of the day at 222.222 mph. In non-tow speeds, Larson was 27th quickest.

Larson's teammate Pato O'Ward put Arrow McLaren in the top-five on the practice charts for the first time this week as last year's Indy 500 runner-up was fourth-fastest overall.

The Indy 500 odds-on favorite and four-time series winner in five races this year Alex Palou was sixth-quickest overall and 24th-fastest in non-tow speeds. Indy 500 activities moves to Fast Friday where the field has an extra 100-horsepower turbocharger for the six-hour practice that runs from noon to 6 p.m. ET.
