An interesting situation unfolded following Jonathan Davenport’s win Saturday night at Fairbury Speedway with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. During his victory lane interview (starting at 3:05 mark), Davenport gave an unexpected nod to Penske Shocks—not once, but twice—which immediately raised eyebrows, especially considering his Longhorn Chassis machines are typically outfitted with Bilstein shocks.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Davenport walked back the comments in a post on social media. That post stirred even more speculation: Had he actually been on Penskes at Fairbury and let it slip? Or was it simply a verbal miscue?

To get some clarity, fans and insiders started digging. One significant piece of public input came from Gavin Landers, who is part of Davenport’s team under owner Lance Landers. Gavin commented on the Facebook version of the DIRTRACKR Sunday Daily show, confirming that the car remains on Bilsteins.

Landers’ comment aligns with photo evidence as well. Photos from Thursday night’s FloRacing Night in America event at Lincoln Speedway—just two days before the Fairbury race—clearly show a Bilstein logo on the shock underneath Davenport’s car. An image taken by photographer Brendon Bauman adds weight to the assertion that the car was still on Bilsteins as of that week.

It’s technically possible the team swapped shocks between Thursday and Saturday, or that Bilstein stickers were placed on Penske units. But based on public comments and available imagery, that seems unlikely. For now, it appears the initial Penske mention was indeed just a slip, and the matter can be put to rest.
