In similar fashion to last year's rainy opening day, wet weather delayed the first practice this Month of May around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2.5-mile oval ahead of the 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.

On-track action was supposed to commence at 12:15 p.m. ET with Indy 500 rookie and refresher programs, but lingering rainstorms made Indy 500 drivers and teams wait until 2:34 p.m. to make their first laps around the famed Indianapolis speedplant.

Practice is open to all 34 Indy 500 competitors through 6 p.m. in The Racing Capital of the World, but more inclement weather might further shorten Tuesday's opening on-track action. Tuesday's opening practice is broadcasted from noon to 4 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 2 (FS2) and from 4-6 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 (FS1).

As Kyle Larson begins his second go-around at the Indy 500, he hopes to "just to try to dial in a comfortable balance" in Tuesday's shortened opening practice.

"At the open test, I felt just a little bit tight, or understeer as you guys would call it, or maybe not you," Larson quipped in an interview with FOX Sports pit reporter Jamie Little. "It's just trying to get your balance right and, you know, reintroduce traffic and adjusting on the tools in the cockpit, and building into all that. Yeah, we'll see, hopefully we can get out at some point today and get some laps.

"It seems like it's warming up the sun is trying to poke itself out, so we'll see. But yeah, excited to get going. Thanks to Arrow McLaren, Hendrick Motorsports, HendrickCars.com, Chevy, everybody involved, for allowing me to do it again. Hopefully this is the only rain we have for the next couple of weeks."

Rookie and refresher programs have been rescheduled for Wednesday from 10 a.m. through noon where Tony Kannan will turn laps with Arrow McLaren Racing. Kanaan will be on standby at the Indy 500 for Larson should rainy weather force Larson to leave May 25's Greatest Spectacle in Racing for NASCAR Cup's Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
