Chili Bowl Nationals Passing Points Explained

The Chili Bowl Nationals 2025 is underway with a week of races. Drivers will race to gain passing points which play a crucial role in their advancement.

Chili Bowl Nationals Passing Points Explained

The Chili Bowl Nationals 2025 has returned to Tulsa for a 39th year, with new and old challengers alike racing for a shot at the Golden Driller Trophy.

While over 300 drivers are typically on the dirt throughout the week, only a select few will make their way through the ranks of the Chili Bowl and see action on Saturday, Jan. 18.

In order for a racer to advance to Saturday, they must rack up enough passing points during their preliminary night to advance to their preliminary night feature. The top 40 drivers in passing points advance to qualifiers, where they have the opportunity to earn additional passing points. The top 16 drivers in passing points after heats and qualifiers advance to each night's preliminary feature. 

How Do Passing Points Work In The Chili Bowl Nationals 2025?

During the week, each driver will race in one preliminary night. Their goal is to gain the most passing points, which are achieved through a drivers start and finish position.

For example, a driver who began the race in fifth position, but finished in first, would gain 120 passing points for the race.

Who Will Advance To Qualifiers In The Chili Bowl Nationals 2025?

As stated earlier, the top 40 drivers earning the most passing points in preliminaries will advance to qualifiers. 

Those who finish in places 41-68 will face a gauntlet of D-Mains, C-Mains and B-Mains to gain a chance to continue racing through Saturday.
