Kyle Larson will start from the pole of Saturday's 63rd running of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey's at Knoxville Raceway.

Larson, with 490 points, beat Daryn Pittman in a tiebreaker — that being Thursday's prelim feature finish, which the Elk Grove, Calif., superstar won while Pittman placed sixth — to lead the 50-lap $190,000-to-win finale to green for the second year in a row.

What helped Larson to the pole was his third-fastest qualifying run in which he drew the lowest pill to time trial first among 54 competitors. Going eighth-to-third in his heat race and ultimately sixth-to-victory in the 25-lap nonstop feature finished the job.

The former NASCAR Cup champion is trying to become the seventh driver to win at least three Nationals in the history's prestigious event. Twelve-time champ Steve Kinser, 11-time champ Donny Schatz, five-time champ Doug Wolfgang, four-time champs Danny Lasoski and Kenny Weld, and three-time champ Mark Kinser are the six drivers to have accomplished the feat.
