Two days later than expected, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers completed qualifying heats for the Dirt Track World Championship Sunday afternoon at Eldora Speedway. Heat races were initially scheduled for Friday evening; however, rain showers on Friday and Saturday forced track officials to postpone the remaining schedule until Sunday. 

Six qualifying heats were contested and the top-three finishers in each heat transferred to the 100-lap main event. 

The "Big River Steel Big Four" competing for the 2023 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship all faired well and put themselves in a position to win the $200,000 championship prize. 

Devin Moran won the first heat race to earn the pole for Sunday's race, while fellow championship contender Jonathan Davenport won the fourth heat race to earn the second starting position. Ricky Thornton, Jr. won the third heat race and will start fifth on the grid. Hudson O'Neal bounced back from a penalty on the start to win the sixth heat race and earn the sixth starting position.
