Kenny Wallace: ‘I’ve been dreaming about running more asphalt races’

Wallace was a fixture in NASCAR from 1990- 2008 and had 27 top-10 finishes over 18 years. He told FloRacing that Dale Earnhardt Jr. said he needed to race in the CARS Tour.

“I’ve been dreaming about running more asphalt races,” said Wallace. “I called Dale Earnhardt Jr. up and through a lot of talking he said ‘You need to run the CARS Tour series’ and I said I’d love that. So I watched on Flo(Racing) the race from Florence. It was a 120-lap race or something like that. They had a stop at lap 60 and I was like ‘That’s me.’”

Wallace is no stranger to South Boston Speedway. He raced on the track frequently while on the NASCAR Busch Series (now known as the Xfinity Series. But he is new to driving on dirt, telling FloRacing that he wanted to learn to run dirt because of A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti did so and he wanted to be “worldly.”
