Hunter Schuerenberg will drive Zemco Racing's No. 1Z Sprint Car at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway the remainder of the season, the longtime team announced Friday morning.

The Sikeston, Mo., native replaces five-time Port Royal champion Logan Wagner, who amicably departed from the team at the beginning of the month to become the new driver of Kreitz Racing's No. 69K, another longstanding race team in Central Pennsylvania.

Nine 410 Sprint Car races are left on Port Royal's schedule, namely Sept. 7-9's $56,000-to-win Tuscarora 50 sanctioned by the All Star Circuit of Champions. Schuerenberg's debut with Zemco begins in Aug. 19's Dream race and twin 25-lap, $10,000-to-win features. Every Port Royal event is streamed live on FloRacing.

"After five successful seasons and the start of a sixth with Logan Wagner behind the wheel, Logan and Zemco have parted ways," Zemco Racing said in a news release on Friday. "John (Zemaitis), Peewee (Zemaitis), Tommy (Carl), and the Zemco team send their thanks to Logan for his dedication, drive, spirit and achievements in the driver’s seat. Most notably, Logan piloted the Zemco sprinter to and through five consecutive 410 track championships at Port Royal Speedway in his time.

"Zemco continues its 35th year of sprint car racing, embarking on the remainder of its 2023 racing season with a new driver in the seat. Join the team in welcoming aboard Hunter Schuerenberg to the Zemco No. 1. Hunter will join forces with Zemco for the remaining races at Port Royal Speedway, including the Tuscarora 50 with the All Star Circuit of Champions."

The news revolving around the former All Star Circuit of Champions traveler came not even 12 hours after he locked into Saturday's Knoxville Nationals main event for the first time in his career.

After posting the second most points in Wednesday's qualifier at the wheel of Kevin Swindell's No. 39 SpeedLab machine, Schuerenberg told FloRacing he didn't know what his future held after this week.

“(I have) no plans. I don’t know if Kevin knows when he wants to race,” Schuerenberg said on Wednesday. “I’ve called a couple cars that are open about wanting to do the Tuscarora 50. But no set plans as of (Wednesday). Plenty of feelers out there right now. I’m on the phone everyday, trying to make some stuff happen. As of (Wednesdsay) I’m in his car through Saturday, then after that I have no idea.”

Other Port Royal Speedway events remaining this year: Sept. 2's Fair Opener, Sept. 4's $6,000-to-win Labor Day Classic, Oct. 6-7's World of Outlaws doubleheader, and Oct. 13's $6,000-to-win program.
