A Look At CARS Tour Throwback Schemes For Hickory Motor Speedway

The annual Throwback event at Hickory Motor Speedway for the CARS Tour is a race that fans and competitors alike look forward to every year since its inception. This year is no exception, but there might be even more excitement surrounding this year's event. Throughout its history we've seen throwbacks to Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Dick Trickle, Sam Ard, and many more, but this year there's a unifying theme around the event. This year the teams will pay tribute to the series that led to the CARS Tour, the old USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series.

The Hooters Pro Cup Series was a stock car series founded by Hooters owner Robert Brooks in 1997. The inaugural championship was won by Mario Gosselin. The Hooters Pro Cup Series featured many stars like Clay Rogers, Shane Huffman, Benny Gordon, Mark McFarland, Bobby Gill, Rodney Childers, and many more. The series eventually folded following Brooks' passing in 2006, but it lives on through the CARS Tour thanks to CARS Tour founder and general manager, Jack McNelly.

The goal for this year's USAR Pro Cup Throwback, according to the CARS Tour, "is to ensure the people that helped the Pro Cup Series build its identity are properly honored in front of a new generation of fans, especially since many of them are still actively involved with the CARS Tour"

The annual Throwback at Hickory Motor Speedway will take place on Saturday, July 29. Fans that cannot attend in person can see all of the following paint schemes, plus many more, by watching live on FloRacing with a FloRacing subscription.

FloRacing and the CARS Tour have announced that the fan vote for this year’s best appearing car at the annual Throwback event on July 29 will be hosted by FloRacing with the winner receiving a $500 prize from FloRacing. That is on top of the already announced full body package that will be given to the winner courtesy of Five Star Race Car Bodies.

Teams from both the Late Model Stock Car and Pro Late Model divisions are eligible to win the award as long as their scheme is a Hooters Pro Cup Series throwback, according to CARS Tour officials.

A full photo gallery of the eligible cars will be posted on FloRacing.com and the FloRacing Facebook page.

Voting will take place on FloRacing.com and will be open throughout the weekend, starting on Friday evening following practice, and ending on Sunday night at 11:59 p.m. ET. The winner will be announced on Monday, July 31.
