Following the announcement by Vermeer Motorsports that the team and driver Hunter Schuerenberg had mutually agreed to part ways on Wednesday, it was announced on Thursday that Buddy Kofoid will be the new driver of the No. 55 Sprint Car.

Kofoid, a 21-year-old racer from Penngrove, California, is a two-time USAC National Midget Series champion. In addition to his success driving Midgets, Kofoid has Sprint Car wins with the World of Outlaws, Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions and High Limit Racing during his young career.

The team announced that Kofoid will take over driving duties beginning with the opening around of Ohio Sprint Speedweek for the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions at Attica Raceway this Friday, June 9.

Vermeer Motorsports announced via their social media channels that they would be parting ways with Schuerenberg after three full Sprint Car seasons with the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions.

The move comes amid one of the biggest Sprint Car seasons ever, and nearing one of the biggest stretches of money the sport has ever seen.

“Parting ways with Vermeer Motorsports mid season wasn’t how we planned 2023 would go, but my family and I are grateful for Tony’s partnership the last three and a half years as we worked relentlessly to evolve the 55 team into the competitive state it has now reached.” Schuerenberg said in a statement. “I especially want to thank my family, friends, sponsors, and fans that have supported me on and off the track throughout my time with the Vermeer 55 team. I’m eager to see what God’s plan will bring as the next step from here.”

Clinton Boyles, the crew chief of the Vermeer No. 55 and Schuerenberg's brother in-law, will stay with the team to work with Kofoid.
