Alex Bowman has announced his replacement driver for the No. 55 Alex Bowman Racing entry on the High Limit Sprint Car Series. Jake Swanson, an open-wheel standout from California, will make his winged sprint car debut Tuesday at Kokomo Speedway.

The opportunity presented itself following the latest news from Hendrick Motorsports that Bowman will miss 3-4 weeks recovering from a fractured vertebrae suffered during a crash in Tuesday's High Limit Sprint Car race at 34 Raceway.

Alex Bowman Racing announced the move to put Swanson in the car via their Twitter account on Thursday . Bowman and Swanson have been friends for some time now, with Swanson even driving his midget car during the past three Chili Bowl Nationals.

Swanson is a familiar face in the non-wing sprint cars, moving from California to the midwest where recently he and Team AZ Racing have been chasing USAC National Sprint Car championships. They've won two USAC features together and currently sit ninth in the points standings. He swept the Western World Championships in Arizona in 2022.

The High Limit Sprint Car Series co-founded by Kyle Larson and Brad Sweet returns to Kokomo Speedway next Tuesday, May 2 for the third race of the 2023 season. Gio Scelzi won the opener at Lakeside Speedway, while full-time High Roller Anthony Macri won at 34 Raceway on Tuesday. Kyle Larson and Tyler Courtney are tied for the series points lead after two races, with Anthony Macri trailing them by one point. The series has nine races remaining on the schedule.
