Jonathan Davenport finally earned his Lucas Oil series win of 2017 eight months into the season. Davenport passed Jimmy Owens for the lead 83 laps into the Hillbilly 100 at Tyler County Speedway, in Middlebourne, West Virginia Sunday night September 3. Davenport struggled at the beginning of the season before switching cars and chassis brands around a month ago. Immediately after the switch Davenport won two unsanctioned races.

Davenport won his heat to start fourth in the 100-lap feature behind fellow heat winners Chris Ferguson, Jimmy Owens, and Josh Richards on the pole.

Owens got around the first and second starting drivers before the field turned a full lap giving him the early lead which he held until lap 83. In doing so, he had to weather 11 cautions.

Davenport only had to withstand one restart brought out by Gregg Satterlee, three laps after he took the lead.

“I passed for second like three times there then there would be another caution.” Davenport said from Victory Lane, “I want to apologize to Jimmy Owens, I went in hot and locked up the brakes. I want to first thank G.R. Smith, for someone to step out of their own car and to let someone else drive it, says a lot about him. I have to thank Josh Richards, he helped me out before the start of the race. The right rear shock wasn’t where I wanted it to be and he tuned on it.”

Tim McCreadie followed Davenport past Owens and made several big attempts at the top spot, keeping the leader in his toes until the final turn. McCreadie tried one last pass in turn four before Davenport ultimately won by a car length.

McCreadie had to work through the B-Main to start the feature and challenge for the lead. After winning the first B, McCreadie started in 17th next to Scott Bloomquist who won the second. McCreadie then worked through the field and was the Hard Charger award for starting 17th and finishing second.

“It was so tough to come up through there in this field of cars. It was just a little narrow out there tonight. The outside restarts were good. Yes, we are happy with this finish,” McCreadie said.

After leading the majority of the race Owens settled for the final podium finish in third.

Don O’Neal and Richards wrapped up the top five.

This win makes Davenport the 16th different winner in the series this season.
