Jason Johnson scored his third win of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series 2017 season Saturday August 19 at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, North Dakota. It was his first points' paying win in more than four months.

Coming off a non-points, preliminary night victory in the Knoxville Nationals last week has given Johnson a little momentum and he capitalized on that by setting the third-fastest time in qualifying, winning his heat, and leading at Red River from green to checkers.

Johnson rocketed from the outside front row, but when multiple cautions bunched the field, Shane Stewart pressured him for the first half of the race as the two bounced and bucked on top of the hard surface.

"My guys never give up. During the 'Month of Money', the tracks got a little slick and we struggled a bit. But this is my type of race track. Cowboy up," an elated Johnson said.

Once Johnson cleared a side-by-side battle at the back of the pack between Jamie Veal and David Gravel, he was able to extend his advantage while Stewart was challenged by Kerry Madsen.

By the time Madsen cleared Stewart for second, it was too late to mount a charge on Johnson.

"It was a fun race, bouncing around and driving hard," Madsen said afterward.

Stewart also refused to be dejected by failing to win. He set a new track record with an 11.925-second lap and finished second to Kraig Kinser in his heat before settling into third at the checkers.

"Quick time, which I'm usually not, a new track record, which is cool, and a podium finish," Stewart said. "We'll just carry this on to tomorrow and hopefully keep the momentum going."

Kinser and Donny Schatz rounded out the top five.

Another notable finish went to Clyde Knipp. The independent sophomore earned his first top-10 with a ninth-place finish.
