Kurt Busch May Not Return To Stewart-Haas In 2018
Kurt Busch will not return to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2018, making him one of several veterans to find themselves without a ride next year.
Kurt Busch is making headlines in what might be one of the strangest moves in NASCAR's "Silly Season" for next year.
On Tuesday, Motorsport.com reported that Kurt Busch was informed he will not race for Stewart-Haas Racing in 2018 while also noting that the company has until midnight to reverse its decision.
The team and Busch are contracted through the end of 2018 with an option that would allow them to cancel next year.
Minutes later, SHR tweeted out a much less certain outcome.

After winning the Daytona 500 at the beginning of this season, Busch's results have been erratic. In 20 races since the victory that locked him into NASCAR's playoffs, he has earned only one more top five finish and seven top 10s.
His single top five came at Pocono Raceway in June, but when the series returned there last week, he could muster only a 13th-place finish.
The move comes at a time when several veteran drivers have either retired or lost their rides. The most recent victim of NASCAR's Silly Season was Matt Kenseth, who is being replaced in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota by Erik Jones in 2018.
Another SHR driver, Danica Patrick, has yet to have her contract renewed amid heavy speculation that she will also not return to the organization next year.
