Two Home State Wins In Two Months For Jimmy Owens
After suffering through nearly a year without a win, Jimmy Owens has now earned two victories in two months and both came in front of his home state fans. On Saturday, June 8 he led the Mountain Moonshine Classic at Smoky Mountain Speedway flag to flag and cruised to victory ahead of Brandon Overton and Scott Bloomquist.

Starting on the outside pole seems to be working well for Owens because his last win came in the Toyota Knoxville 50 at
Tazewell (TN) Speedway on May 7 after also starting second [http://www.floracing.com/article/55826-jimmy-owens-scores-his-first-lucas-oil-win-in-nearly-a-year].

Saturday night, Owens jumped out to a lead over pole sitter Ray Cook and rocketed away from the field only to be slowed six laps later for a caution. It didn’t take long for him to regain his advantage and stretch it to a full straightaway for much of the event.

"Man, I can't thank my crew enough, they have worked their tails off on this car,” Owens said afterwards. “We have been away from home the last week or two and we needed to get things sorted out. It's good to know a lot of hard work has paid off.”

Overton was able to make a race of it in the closing laps. He was bidding for his second straight win in the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series and his third overall after finding Victory Lane in the World of Outlaws Firecracker 100 June 24.

Just like the previous night at Cherokee Super Speedway, he mounted a late-race charge—coming up just one position short this time around.

“I would have like to have had a caution there at the end, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Congrats to Jimmy on the win. We just got it going too late tonight to win it. But to run second with these guys, it's all well worth it."

Bloomquist rounded out the podium and he had to pass points’ leader Josh Richards in the closing laps to do so.

"Overton was really good at the end,” Bloomquist said. “We got a little bit tight at the end, we just had to hang in there. It looked like one time we were coming on, but then we picked up a push. I am sure if we would have had a caution, we might have had something for them. Everything is running good again so hopefully we will be back up front again."

Richard and Darrell Lanigan rounded out the top five.
