Brandon Sheppard earned his second Summernationals victory of the season and his eighth World of Outlaws Late Model Series race in one fell swoop by leading all 50 laps at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, MO, on Saturday.

Not-so-affectionately known as "The Hell Tour" because of its grueling daily schedule of races from mid-June through mid-July, this unique endurance race gives drivers a chance to run almost every night.

Winning his heat and starting second on the grid, Sheppard left little doubt about the victory. He jumped to the early lead and paced the field for all 50 laps but had to hold off a charging Eric Wells after a lap-42 red flag.

The red flag waved when Brian Shirley and Chris Madden--who were running second and third, respectively, at the time--tangled and collected Tyler Erb and Frank Heckenast Jr.

Sheppard was safely in the lead when Shirley attempted a low-groove pass on Madden. Shirley clipped Madden's left rear and sent the two spinning.

"Lap traffic was terrible to get through," said Erb, who was also involved. "Every time I would get behind those lap cars, it would just kill all of my momentum and then we would get all bunched up. Squirrel (Shirley) got in there hot when Madden slid him, and they wrecked and I did everything I could to keep going but the track was covered up. It sucks. We gave away a lot of money tonight."

The four damaged cars dropped to the back, while Sheppard had a new challenger in the form of Wells, who slipped past the carnage into second.

"We had a really good race car," Sheppard said from Victory Lane. "And we had a good rhythm going once we got going. This race track is awesome. I love coming here and it means a lot to get a win here at I-55. It's been a while since I've been here, but it's definitely been a while since I got a win here."

This was the first time the Outlaws have visited the track since 2013. The Summernationals' last stop there came one year later in 2014.

"This place was really racy," Wells said. "I was watching everyone in front of me and watching sparks flying. I was just trying to keep my stuff together. It's a misfortune for Madden and Shirley and them guys involved in that crash, but we're happy with a second-place finish."

Rick Eckert also took advantage of the accident to slide into third.

"That wreck happened about 15 times, it just finally did happen," Eckert said. "I lost a couple of spots trying to miss it the times that it didn't happen, but it was a gift to us because we were backing through the field there. I kept getting off of that top because I thought they were crashing and finally they did, and I was lucky enough to be far enough away from it."

Shane Clanton and Chub Frank rounded out the top five.
